Newport Solar selected as installer for Solarize Jamestown campaign

Rhode Island owned & operated solar company joins effort to launch "Solarize 2.0"

Jamestown, RI - Solarize Jamestown, a joint intiative of the RI Office of Energy Resources, the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, Jamestown municipals leaders and the non-profit SmartPower, announced today that Newport Solar has been selected as the official solar installer for the program.

Building upon the community's successful "Sustainable Jamestown" initiative, Jamestown town leaders last month launched "Solarize Jamestown" - a community-based, outreach campaign designed to engage homeowners in buying residential solar energy.

"We are pleased to select Newport Solar as the official Solarize Jamestown installer," said State Energy Commissioner Carol Grant. "Newport Solar is a local, family-owned and operated business, it specializes in residential solar systems, and has a long track record of success. We look forward to working with Doug Sabetti and his team as we Solarize Jamestown!"

"We here at Newport Solar are very excited and proud to have been chosen as the installation company for Solarize Jamestown program!" stated Doug Sabetti, owner of Newport Solar. "We look forward to working with our friends and neighbors of Jamestown to help them discover what solar can do for them."

Residents of Jamestown can learn about solar through events and workshops and from neighbors who have already installed solar systems, known as "solar ambassadors." Interested residents may also find out if their home or business is eligible for a solar system and purchase it from Newport Solar -- all through the Solarize Jamestown website at https://solarizejamestown.wee.green/

The Solarize Jamestown campaign runs from May 11 through September 21. Already, over 50 people have signed up to learn if their homes are eligible for solar.

The Solarize Jamestown campaign also represents one of the first uses of the WeeGreen "green campaign" platform. WeeGreen is a free, co-branded on-line platform that allows local community activists to run their own green campaigns.

"As more and more communities see the benefits of going solar - and seek to launch their own green campaigns, WeeGreen will be there for them to use for free," said Brian F. Keane, President of SmartPower. "The way Turbo-tax helps you do your taxes, WeeGreen walks each community and each organization through how to put together and run a green campaign. So now everyone can follow the lead of Jamestown - and Newport Solar!"
